SOME Breaks Ground on The Conway Center

Benning Road Groundbreaking

On July 29, SOME supporters, government officials and project partners gathered for the ceremonial groundbreaking of our site on Benning Road in NE, DC. Named The Conway Center in honor of Joanne Conway and SOME’s Building Hope Capital Campaign Chair William E. Conway, Jr., the green facility will be the first in the District to combine affordable housing, job training and health care in one location. Fr. John called the project "a natural evolution of SOME’s holistic and comprehensive approach to serving homeless and low-income individuals and families.”

Help End Discrimination Against the Homeless

A 2014 study found that over 90% of homeless individuals surveyed in DC had experienced discrimination, including in accessing employment, health care, and housing. There is no current law to prohibit this discrimination, but a coalition of nonprofits and advocates is asking DC City Council to add “homelessness” as a protected class under the DC Human Rights Act of 1977.

Kids in school uniforms

School Uniforms for SOME Students

Do you remember how you felt on the first day of school? Were you excited to see your friends and get started? For many children and teens living at SOME, this excitement is mingled with the stress of standing out because their families can’t afford their school uniforms. You can help these kids start the year off right by purchasing khakis, a polo shirt, or a full school uniform. Thank you!

Taste Your Music

Gourmet Symphony Lifts Spirits, Feeds Souls

Today and on July 24, our friends at Gourmet Symphony treated Dining Room guests to Taste Your Music events that paired wonderful food with live music. July's meal was inspired by New Orleans, today’s by the Kentucky Derby. Gourmet Symphony will culminate its Taste Your Music events with a Benefit Concert at The Hamilton Live on September 3, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting SOME. Trot for Hunger

Time to Trot!

Summer is nearing its end - time to register for the 14th Annual Thanksgiving Day Trot for Hunger! This DC tradition is held on Thanksgiving morning on Freedom Plaza, in the heart of downtown DC. The race features a Kids’ One Mile Fun Run and a timed 5K race. Registration is $30 for walkers and $35 for runners, and includes a long-sleeve T-shirt. All proceeds benefit SOME’s services for the hungry and homeless.

Ms. Carolyn

Ms. Carolyn's Story

Ms. Carolyn was very withdrawn when she first arrived at SOME's Kuehner Place for Abused and Neglected Elderly. She began attending the SOME Senior Center day program, and things started to change. She became friends with other seniors and found herself talking and laughing more. She says, “It is a really good feeling to smile again!”

SOME is in need of the following items.

Reusable bags
Milk crates for storage
New underwear for
men and women

Thank you for being a friend of SOME!
