Advocacy and Social Justice Network

Dear Advocacy Network Member,

Together, we succeeded!

On Tuesday, July 10, the D.C. City Council passed Bill 17-132, the "Payday Lenders Consumer Protection Act of 2007," by a vote of 12-0, with one abstention (by Councilmember Marion Barry). The bill will come up for a second vote on October 2.  If it passes again, it will become a law.

This achievement was due, in no small part, to calls and e-mails from the SOME Advocacy Network.  Thanks to all of you who responded to our action alert.

The Council’s summer recess begins tomorrow.  We look forward to your support on the payday lenders bill and other issues when it reconvenes.

Enjoy your weekend!
