1. SOME Receives 2007 National Capital Business Ethics Award

On October 18, SOME was awarded the 2007 National Capital Business Ethics Award by the Society of Financial Service Professionals (FSP) in recognition of its exceptional stewardship and ethical practices.  Each year FSP recognizes businesses that exemplify high standards of ethical behavior in their everyday business conduct.  In 2007, a nonprofit category was added and SOME has the distinct honor of being the first non-profit ever selected for this award for our careful and responsible stewardship of the resources provided by our donors, volunteers and employees. SOME’s overhead costs are slightly over 10% which demonstrates SOME’s ability to responsibly and efficiently use our resources.

2.  Jr. Gala—Save the Date!

We are pleased to invite you to SOME’s 5th Annual Jr. Gala Benefit, to be held at the elegant Galleria at Lafayette Centre on Friday, February 8th, 2008. A can’t-miss event for D.C.’s young professionals, the SOME Junior Gala will benefit the Zagami House playground. Opening later this month, Zagami House is SOME’s newest affordable housing program for 12 formerly homeless families with children. Join SOME and hundreds of young couples and singles for a wonderful evening of cocktails and dancing to benefit needy children and families. Tickets are $85.00 per person. For more information, please contact Tracy Monson at (202) 797-8806 ext. 1011 or tmonson@some.org.

3.  SOME Signs Contract with DC Housing Authority

Contract

Fr. John, president of SOME, signing the LRSP contract with
Michael Kelly, the Executive Director of the District of Columbia Housing Authority

SOME recently became one of the first organizations to sign a contract with DC Housing Authority for the Local Rent Supplement Program (LRSP). The LRSP Long Term Subsidy Contract for Barnaby House, a 10 unit building for formerly homeless and extremely low income families, was executed by SOME and the DC Housing Authority on December 17, 2007. The monthly subsidies will allow SOME to cover the operating costs for the project while only charging the tenants 30% of their income for rent. Within the next 30 days SOME should execute a similar contract for the 12 family units at Zagami House, which will open for occupancy this month.
